Okay

Just okay. It’s gentle and rinses easily.  It doesn’t really remove makeup so I use this to follow a micellar water or oil cleanser. I prefer to use it in the shower since it does take quite a lot of water to rinse clean

Nice lotion face wash

This is a nice lotiony face wash , that does the job. It's not anything Life-changing, or earth shaking, but it gets the job done

The best ever

Let me just start off by saying I have never reviewed any product ever, except for this so you know it's good! My skin is so sensitive and it was feeling overly stripped and irritated with another cleanser I was using. I bought this because I heard it was great for very sensitive skin and IT IS PERFECT! It is so gentle, yet so effective at cleaning my skin after a long day. My skin feels very hydrated after I use this too, which is a plus! I also bought their Tolerance emulsion and cream and I'm obsessed. Love it and will continue to repurchase!

Thick, Hydrating

I use this as as 1st step cleanser, and sometimes I will mix it with a powdered physical exfoliant and it works really well, follow with a regular cleanser because it is very thick. Non stripping.

Nice Lotion!

So I know this product is a cleansing lotion, but I actually use this as a regular lotion. It's basic and the minimal ingredients are a plus for my sensitive skin. This by itself is not moisturizing enough for me, so I use it after a hydrating toner, snail mucin, and then top off with plain squalane oil.

Might not work for you if your skin is extremely sensitive to fungal issues

I bought this to try as a face and body moisturizer since it is essentially the exact same as the Tolerance Extreme Emulsion (which is actually intended to be a moisturizer) but WAY cheaper per ounce. I have issues with malassezia folliculitis and many people with the same or similar fungal-related conditions say that this product and the Emulsion work great for them. Unfortunately, this still caused my skin to flare up a bit, likely because I am just more sensitive than most. The two ingredients in question are caprylic/capric triglyceride and squalane. Caprylic/capric triglyceride is fine on the surface because caprylic acid and capric acid are two fatty acids that are not metabolized by malassezia yeasts, as malassezia yeasts only feed on fatty acids with carbon chain lengths of 11-24. However, caprylic/capric triglyceride is derived from coconut oil and can have impurities that include other coconut fatty acids that do have carbon chain lengths between 11 and 24. A similar issue exists with squalane. Squalane derived from olive oil often contains impurities in the form of problematic fatty acids, but this isn't the case with squalane derived from sugar cane. I e-mailed Avène to ask where their squalane is sourced from, and sure enough, it comes from olive oil. Now, this still probably won't be an issue if your skin isn't super sensitive to fungal-related flare-ups, but it's something to keep in mind if you are really sensitive or if you've had problems with products containing the two aforementioned ingredients and couldn't figure out why. If you don't have any fungal-related issues, then you have nothing to worry about. All of that aside, I thought the product functioned perfectly fine as a moisturizer for my combination skin, but if your skin is on the drier side you might need to apply it multiple times throughout the day or use a heavier moisturizer. I didn't try it as a cleanser, but it doesn't really contain any surfactants so it's going to be the absolute gentlest cleansing option available for the most sensitive skin, if that's what you're looking for.

Safe for Malassezia Pityrosporum Folliculitis!

My skin is sensitive, prone to Malassezia Pityrosporum Folliculitis, and dehydration. I am also someone who is diligent about having a chemical free home. This cleanser is SO gentle, effectively removes all my make-up, does not break me out, or damage my moisture barrier. Will use this one for life!

Healing Facial Cleanser

I was diagnosed with rosacea last year and have been through a long process of minimizing my skin care routine and finding the right products for my combination extremely sensitive skin. Through trial and error, I have come to find that the Avene tolerance extreme line are my holy grail and the only products to calm my rosacea flare ups, heal contact dermatitis, reduce redness and also leave my skin looking so smooth as well as less oily which to me is fantastic given I live in a hot humid state. It will take time to get used to a lotion/cream based cleanser but I love that it is fragrance free and has a milky consistency which feels so soothing on my face. I use this cleanser in the morning which I take off with organic cotton pads then use a thermal water spray right after as a toner so that I can finish my routine with the Avene tolerance extreme emulsion followed by a mineral sunscreen. Since I wear sun screen and makeup I like to double cleanse in the evening with a oil first then a different gel cleanser for sensitive skin so am not sure how effective the Avene tolerance extreme cleanser is at removing that. Overall I highly recommend this cleanser over the Avene extremely gentle cleanser ( some ingredient in that one irritated my skin bad) especially if you have reactive skin as it will immediately heal your face and keep rosacea flare ups to a minimum. I will continue to purchase this line and am so grateful Avene made this cleanser with people with extremely sensitive skin in mind and such wonderful minimal ingredients.

Bad packaging, not a real cleanser but good for an after-cleanse

I agree with a lot of the reviewers that this is 1. bad packing and 2. not a real cleanser. It's not great at removing all the dirt, so I like using this product as an after-cleanse. I'm really thorough when it comes to removing a full face of makeup, so I'll start with a makeup wipe, continue with a cleanser and - if I'm not using a serum - I'll rub this on and use a pad to swipe it off. That way, I get everything off and it leaves a little bit of moisture. I'll lock that in with a heavier moisturizer and that does the trick for me. It has no fragrance, which I like, and it's really gentle.

Super gentle and effective

I love this cleanser! Purchased recently after being diagnosed with acne rosacea. I have oily and sensitive skin as well. Saw this was recommended in various places online. It is really, really gentle but still works great at removing makeup. I use it in the shower. Massage onto wet face and wipe off gently with a washcloth.
