SkinMedica's Age Defense Retinol Complex 1.0 enhances the skin's appearance to promote a smoother, rejuvenated complexion. Formulated for skin types pre-conditioned to retinol treatments, it minimizes the appearance of age spots and wrinkles. It also improves elasticity and works effectively to visibly reduce acne scars. With continued use, faster cell renewal is encouraged.

Apply a single pump to face in the evening. If you have never used a retinol product before, begin by limiting use to twice a week, gradually increasing frequency to every other night, and then advancing to each evening or as tolerated. Mild redness, peeling and irritation is expected when using this product. Use daily sun protection with SPF 20 or higher during use of this product. Avoid getting in eyes. If contact occurs, rinse eyes thoroughly with water.

Great retinol just go slow.
This had done wonders for my acne prone skin. I was struggling with sebacous filaments on my nose, some large pores on my cheeks and re-curring breakouts around my mouth and temples. After 3 weeks my breakouts have stopped almost completely. I get an occasional small pimple but they are much more manageable. My advice is to start only after you have purchased a quality face sucncreen and moisturizer because you have to use suncreen every day while using this product. EVERYDAY - even if its cloudy. I learned the hard way and got a burn on my face after the first day because I thought it was cloudy enough I could skip the spf. NOPE! Start by applying once a night every 3 days for the first few weeks then slowly build up the frequency from there. I stick with the whole skin medica line and use this with their suncreen and their ultra sheer moisturizer. I apply moisturizer 10 minutes after my retinol at night and then apply the moizturizer again after I wash my face in the morning and then apply the SM suncreen ontop of the moisturizer. This helps keep the dryness and redness at bay while using this high concentration of retinol. This has honestly helped my skin so much. I have started to not have to use foundation daily which is pretty close to a miracle for me. Took at least 1 month for my skin to start to show the benefits but I am glad I waited and stuck with the routine. I am 31 and wish I started retinol long ago. I previousy used Sunday Riley .625 but found it was not as effective as the SM 1.0. Also avoid going under the eyes! I also reccomend if you use eye cream put it on before your retinol so you dont accidently push the retinol under your eye which can happen if you apply your eye cream after.

Start slow if you’ve used a lower strength retinol if you have sensitive skin. This is still very drying for me and has taken some time for my skin to adjust. I plan to stick with it. I’m using once a week this month and plan to increase frequency in the second month to twice a week.
