Takes some getting used to!

I finally decided to give this a try after reading ALL of the reviews. Like so many other said - it takes some getting used to. I only use it when I curl my hair... I spray each section (a little goes a long way!) before I put the curling iron to it. I let all the curls set for a few minutes. It really does add shine and more structured curl! Pricey but gives a different look to my curls.

Heat Styling Only

When I first used this product, I didn't like it-it seemed heavy, and made my hair feel...kind of gloppy, and left my hair gummy. But after playing around with it, I completely agree with another reviewer, and found it's a great hairspray to use while heat styling (okay w/a hair dryer, but ideal for a straightener or curling iron/wand). To use, I spray a section of hair (DON'T SATURATE IT), use the heat appliance, then typically apply another VERY LIGHT layer (while section of hair is still hot); or, for more touchable/natural hold, I'll go over that section with a lighter (Oribe) hairspray. If you use it this way, you'll still end up with a touchable/non-gummy, long-lasting hold. Take the name of this spray seriously, it is a LACQUER hairspray. That lacquer, almost gummy texture basically disappears when you apply heat over it, but the strong hold remains. For me, the two big pros for this product are: one, when heat-styling, and I need strong, weather-proof hold, and want the style to last a long time; two, every other hairspray I've tried (drugstore or higher end) breaks me out, with the exception of Oribe. Knowing this, saves me time, money (I don't buy one and then never use it more than once), and worry. If it weren't for breaking out issue, I couldn't justify the incredibly high price tag and would look at other brands. The downsides? The price (really high, like all Oribe products), especially for the quantity-I hadn't realized this is not the standard 8.5/9 oz hairspray can, but a smaller, squatter size that's 5.5 oz; also there's a bit of a learning curve to using it-I only apply it to a hair section right before heat-styling it, and even then, not too much. So should you buy it? Depends on your budget and what you need it for. It has its place in my cabinet, and it's good for certain things. But if you're looking for an all-in one, regular styling/setting spray you can use without thought, I might skip this. The smell is fine (not too strong, and dissipates fairly quickly), but not as amazing as other Oribe products. For reference, I'm in my mid thirties, caucasian, and have medium length hair that's slightly wavy; my hair's colored/highlighted and on the dryer side, between medium and coarse texture (straw-like on bad days, smoother/normal on others : ) Hope this helps you make the smart decision for you!

Perfect for styles that don't move

If you have medium or thick hair, this will give you a style that stays in place all day (and beyond). For me, it's the only thing that works when I even want a basic style. I have fine hair that goes limp almost immediately after curling, and frizzes up quickly after straightening. This spray helps with both issues, but it takes some practice. It is NOT one of those "effortless" products, but the results are worth it for me. It's incredibly sticky and a little hard to work with - have a comb on hand whether you're curling or straightening, because it can tangle things a little. I let it dry a little and then take the heat tool to it and the results are totally frizz-free polished and set. I only use it for heat styling.. it's far too sticky to use as a finisher unless you let it dry forever or gently blow it with heat (that's probably better for a budge-free updo or really sleek movement free style).

Great, but only with heat styling

I love the spray when I curl my hair since it adds an extra oomph. My hair has all day shine, yet doesn't feel greasy or oily. The issue is with the instructions saying it also works when untouched. It feels sticky and takes really long to dry if I let it stay. I feel the best use is just using it with heat.
