Finally! A gentle retinol for sensitive skin.
I have not had much luck with retinol. At 45, my skin is sensitive and reactive. I have been using a .01 percent retinol oil for six months, then worked my way up to a .02 oil. Anything above that made me look like I had a sunburn. The Obagi 1 percent is gentle. It feels like a serum. Not only does it not irritate my skin, but after two weeks my skin looks and feels better.

Effective
I use several Obagi products in my daily and nightly routine. This retinol, combined with their facial serum, and moisturizer in the evening, has noticeably smoothed and brightened my skin. I always use a vitamin c in the morning and I've been pleased with results. I have malasma, which is basically mirrored splotchy skin. It really used to look terrible up close, but the combination of these products has evened out my skintone dramatically. I gave 4 stars because I have another brand of retinol I prefer because I feel it is slightly more effective on my skin. I don't know how true that is, but this is a fantastic product if your skin is conditioned to it. I am a long-time retinol user and I am able to apply this daily with no drying.

Great retinol, especially for the price
This is a great, effective retinol at a really good price point. I switched to this product after using Retivance for about a year. I will say, this Obagi Retinol 1.0 dries out my skin more than Retivance did (but I have naturally dry skin anyways). I only use this product a few times per week to prevent severe dryness. I think this is a great product and would buy again but if you have naturally dry skin, you may want to consider using only a few nights per week vs. every night.
