Effaclar Adapalene Gel 0.1% Retinoid Acne Treatment from La Roche-Posay is an FDA-approved prescription-strength retinoid acne treatment. This oil-free, fragrance-free acne treatment contains adapalene gel, a dermatologist recommended retinoid. Retinoids, such as adapalene, are vitamin A derivatives that regulate skin cell turnover to help clear skin and prevent blackheads, whiteheads, clogged pores, and acne blemishes.
Key Ingredients:
- Adapalene: a prescription-strength retinoid that regulates skin cell turnover to prevent clogged pores and treat acne
Key Benefits:
- Helps clear blackheads, whiteheads, clogged pores, and acne blemishes
- Prevents new acne from forming
- Oil-free and non-comedogenic; fragrance-free
Tip: The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) describes topical retinoids as a treatment of choice for mild, moderate and severe acne. Adapalene 0.1% is FDA approved to be safe and effective for over-the-counter use.
Use once daily. Clean the skin gently with a cleanser such as Toleriane Hydrating Cleanser for normal to dry skin, or Effaclar Purifying Gel for normal to oily skin and pat dry before applying the product. Cover the entire affected area with a thin layer. For example, if your acne is on the face, apply the product to the entire face. Do not use more than one time a day. Applying more than directed will not provide faster or better results, but may worsen skin irritation. During the early weeks of use, your acne may appear to worsen before it improves (this is normal); continue use as directed, unless you get irritation that becomes severe. Irritation is more likely to occur in the first few weeks of use or if using more than one topical acne medication at a time but irritation usually lessens with continued use of this product. Applying more than directed will not provide faster or better results. Using a gentle cleanser, like Toleriane Moisturizer, can help offset these side effects. It may take up to 3 months of once daily use to see results. Apply a sunscreen, such as Anthelios Clear Skin, to protect skin against sensitivity to the sun often caused by retinoids. For further instructions, refer to the Drug Facts on the packaging.
Retinoid vs. retinol, what’s the difference?
Both Retinol and Adapalene are considered retinoids – meaning they are both derived from Vitamin A. Retinol is a gentle retinoid widely available over the counter and often used in anti-aging creams or serums. Adapalene is a prescription-strength retinoid, now available over-the-counter, recommended by dermatologists for the treatment of acne. Adapalene is a more potent derivative of Vitamin A – making it very effective.

really good solid product
honestly so far so good, I'm using it only 2 to 3 times a week and I do notice my mask acne is lessening. plus this isn't over drying which i love for my already dry skin. No smell which is good, nice gel texture. overall good product. if you have acne I do recommend this.

Miracle in a tube
Adapalene takes patience and bearing with some discomfort at first, but the results speak for themselves.

Amazing results
Ive been using about two months. I almost stopped a few times, I was purging really bad at around week 4-6. But after another two weeks, my skin is so much better than it has been in a long time. I am really excited to see results over the next months. After just two months my skin is so much more smooth and dark spots seem to be fading. I use this over moisturizer every other night to avoid any irritation. I wish I had done that from the beginning, maybe I wouldn't have had a purge if my skin didn't get irritated from daily use on dry, unmoisturized skin. Buffering it over moisturizer is the best tip I received.

Excellent OTC product for acne & anti-aging
So you wanna talk retinoids? Tretinoin (Retin-A) and adapalene are the two main forms of retinoids, which are compound derivatives of Vitamin A. Tretinoin, which requires a doctor's prescription, is the more widely studied compound with regards to anti-aging; it has proven preventative for wrinkle and fine line formation. However, it can be highly irritating, causing peeling, dryness, and flakiness of skin. Enter Adapalene. A slightly less potent cousin of tretinoin, adapalene also fights acne and regulates skin cell turnover, but at a much lower risk of irritation. There is not much literature published regarding its clinical effect on anti-aging, but it operates via the same mechanism of tretinoin; theoretically it also stimulates the production of collagen and prevents the onset of aging through regular usage. FYI - Adapalene and Differin are the same product, just different branding. I prefer LRP's because it has a better price per unit volume and more frequent sales.

Worked really well for me
I was really scared to use this, but I got it and started anyway to get my skin used to topical retinoids. I don't have acne, and my skin is normal/dry. Before using this, I used to have to exfoliate at least once a week, but I don't need to do that anymore with this! It keeps my skin clear and has helped clear up some smaller bumps. I was using it every night but now I've switched to every other night. It also hasn't given me any reactions, and I haven't encountered any serious dryness either. I can get small dry patches around my nose sometimes if I don't moisturize well, but that's it. Overall, I'd highly recommend this product! It's a great way to get into retinoids.

Love this for my butt acne
I get bumps on my butt once in a while, and after taking a shower I rub this on both cheeks and the bumps are gone and stay gone within a couple days. It works good after shaving for red bumps as well. I've tried it on my face but it can make it red and peel if you use it everyday.

Perfect for my hormonal acne
I've loved this product to tackle breakouts. Instead of applying to my entire face, I use a little bit to cover the area(s) where my breakouts are. A little goes a long way. It has gotten rid of some breakouts magically over night. Others require a few applications but you can see a reduction in redness and inflammation fairly quickly. It can be a bit drying, but its nothing a good moisturizer can't handle and it's still very much worth it.
