I always struggled with blackheads on my nose and slight redness on my cheeks and within a week of using iS Clinical serum I noticed instantly my blackheads had practically diminished and my skin tone became more even. Blackheads, Meet Your Match!
The line between tingling and burning is a fine one, but a hard one. I learned this the hard way with Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum. I wanted it to work so badly because the reviews were off the charts. I wanted to believe that what I felt was tingling, but it was not... iS Active Serum has a legitimate and delightful tingle, like the feeling in your mouth after you pop spearmint gum! I would never compare this to a burning sensation. If it feels that way, rinse it off with a GENTLE cleanser and apply either a antimicrobial gel, or Cortizone 10 Anti-Itch Ointment. My doctor told me about Cortizone 10 Anti-Itch Ointment after a retinol burn. The white Cortizone cream contains alcohol so ensure it is the ointment (Vaseline consistency). Works like a charm! I have light, combo, sensitive skin but I have built up a BHA tolerance. I have used Paula's Choice 2% Liquid Exfoliant every night for two years. It takes time to build up tolerance to it, maybe 2-weeks to a month, but it is pretty gentle so it didn't take long. Overtime I added Paula's 9% BHA once a week all over, on top of my barrier night cream. I loved Paula's 2% and saw a difference when I didn't use it. However, it never purged my pores, just lightened them from black to a light grey. With iS Active Serum my skin is purging a bit. All the little bumps, milia, blackheads and gunk deep in my skin is starting to come up. I have had one tiny milia by my eye for a year, but it turns out it was a deep, hard blackhead! Paula's Choice kept it from growing but never got it to come up or out. I am overly cautious with extractions so unless it is ready to pop, I won't touch it. Even then, I will use Mario Badescu Drying Lotion and let it purge itself. Scars are forever! I think Paula's Choice is a great starter BHA, and without it my skin may not have tolerated this. I think the SD Alcohol 30 in the iS Active Serum is the ticket. People are cautious with alcohol because it breaks the barrier, but in my case I needed that. It opens the barrier just enough to let the magic penetrate just below the surface. Sometimes alcohol can be helpful for people with acne, milia, and pervasive, deep, stubborn blackheads. Manual exfoliation is too abrasive. Extractions, even proper ones, can leave marks if the gunk isn't close enough to the surface, and sticking a needle in a pore or pimple is just a terrible idea. Products like Paula's Choice are gentle, but they only moderately manage surface issues. iS Active Serum allows the actives to permeate deep enough into the skin to lift out the gunk. I will be mindful of the SD Alcohol 30, and use it sparingly once my skin is all cleared out. I will also ensure I use a strong barrier repair cream (I like SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2 for winter because I tend to be dry and it is recommended for anyone who consistently uses BHAs since they disrupt the barrier even if they don't contain alcohol). Otherwise, I think for the first time in 30 years I won't dread magnifying mirrors or morning, sunlit cuddles with my boyfriend.
