Subpar sunscreen

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

I wanted to love this face sunscreen but it's just not happening. If you have ANY dry spots on your face this will exasperate it dramatically, which is not a great look. The tint worked alright with my skin tone but I don't think I'll be buying any tinted sunscreen again after this product.

Multitasker sunscreen & primer

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

Elta MD physical 41 SPF tinted sunscreen is a must in my skin care routine. For the past 3 years this product has been great for my aging and acne prone skin. It is a light consistency and non greasy. As a primer I can wear it alone with my other cosmetics. For added color I just apply my blush and a good quality loose face powders to finish it off. Yes it might be light for most people but as a primer it can't be beat. After trying other primers, which broke me out, I am sticking with Elta MD. Also, if I need more color or coverage for a special outing, I can apply a light coverage of my foundation or even use a bronzer for a 'sun kissed look'. Using an 'Ultrawear Flawless Compact Foundation' works terrific also! This sunscreen primer allows an easy and smooth application of any other cosmetic over it. The added benefit is that Elta MD is recommended by my dermatologist! Thank you Elta MD for a non chemical skin care product.

Perfect lightweight sunscreen

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

I have acne-prone skin and easily irritated eyes, so I need to wear mineral sunscreen. And this one is absolutely perfect for me. The texture is like a cloud of mousse, super lightweight and not even noticeable once it is on. It has never made me break out or irritated my eyes. I have fairly pale skin, so the tint looks a little dark on me at first, but it blends in perfectly once you rub it in. I don't wear any make-up, so I like that the tint in this kind of evens out my skin tone sometimes. It does rub off onto my face masks and clothing if I'm not careful though. But it washes out very easily, with no permanent staining. I also watched a review of this sunscreen by a dermatologist who pointed out that the iron oxides used for the tint help protect skin against blue light! That is a real comfort to me since I work at a computer all day. My boyfriend isn't in the habit of wearing sunscreen, but I let him wear this one time, and he absolutely loved the way that it felt on his skin and how it evened out some of his redness. So he bought a bottle just for himself too. An absolutely perfect lightweight mineral sunscreen. Couldn't be happier.

Very gentle, but highlights dry spots

3 stars out of a maximum of 5

The pros: No stinging, flushing, or burning with this one at all, even when coming in contact with water (washing face, sweating, etc.). So that's great. The tint also works for me, I've got a light, neutral skin tone. The texture is nice too, almost fluffy/whipped, which goes on really nicely. The cons: Very, very matte finish for me. This settles into every little nook and cranny, highlighting dry spots. My skin is a bit dry right now, but this makes it look (and feel) much dryer than it actually is. I don't think this sunscreen is causing additional drying, just emphasizing what's there, and not helping it improve.

Great formula, not universal shade

4 stars out of a maximum of 5

I prefer mineral sunscreen, usually zinc-only formulas. I was happy coverage-wise with the brand I was using but it was drying. I decided to switch to Elta MD, as I had used it years ago and remembered liking it. Trying it now, I still think the formula is great. It wears well, offers great sun protection and does not dry out my skin. I was surprised at how light the tint was, though. It doesn't leave a white cast, but it leaves a light cast...even on my medium/light skin it doesn't blend completely. If you have lighter skin and you're used to mineral sunscreens, I think this is a great option.

Left a Strong White Cast

2 stars out of a maximum of 5

It goes on great, doesn't smell, but even my white uncle said I look "chalky" or like "I washed my face and left the soap on". It's safe to say that while the formula is great, even after working it in it still leaves a very noticeable white cast on my face.

Love the Formula, Not the Color

4 stars out of a maximum of 5

I have a Fitzpatrick 4 skin tone (Latina and Asian background) and I LOVE the formula of this sunscreen, but the tint is to light for my skin tone. However, I keep a bottle of this sunscreen for backup because when my skin is feeling very sensitive this is my go-to sunscreen. I have oily skin and have been using prescription retinol for almost one year, so this product does live up to the promise that it's for sensitive skin. The formula feels moisturizing when you apply it, but it dries matte.

It's okay, good ingredients, stains clothing

3 stars out of a maximum of 5

This tinted sunscreen if used alone helps minimize imperfections on my skin, but it only comes in one shade which can be a problem if it doesn't match your skin tone. Otherwise the sunscreen has good ingredients and leaves a matte finish (not greasy). However, this sunscreen will rub off on clothing and takes a good cleanser to remove. It also doesn't contain octinoxate which most EltaMD sunscreens contain, for me it irritates my skin. I highly recommend trying out a sample before purchasing.

ingredients great

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

Ingredients list on Dermstore website is confusing as consumers have to go to a different site to know the actual order of the ingredients, so please stop alphabetizing the ingredients list. Thanks.

I don't like it..

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

When I put on it leaves a cast even though it's tinted and it pills on my skin. I do like the other elta md that comes with a pump though but I thought this one would be better, I was wrong.
